Two teenagers from the Dominican Republic found dead in the wheelwell of a JetBlue plane traveling to America

Two teenagers from the Dominican Republic were tragically found dead in the wheelwell of a JetBlue plane travelling to America.

The two bodies that were discovered on Jan. 7 have now been identified.

Investigators determined that both teens died from asphyxiation due to a lack of oxygen while concealed in the aircraft’s landing gear compartment.

The family explained that some members of the community suspect that Anilu, along with two other teenagers, may have planned to escape the country; however, this remains unconfirmed.

Although there are theories, the circumstances surrounding their tragic fate continue to raise questions, because such incidents are rare.

“Somebody here — they will go to travel… maybe in a plane or boat, and they try to escape from the Dominican Republic,”.

The plane had spent the day flying to and from New York City in freezing temperatures; however, the bodies were found during a routine post-flight inspection, according to JetBlue.

Their mothers: Margarita Luisi Elisma and Ironelis Castillo, first identified them through photographs.

Then, they provided DNA samples to Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies who traveled to the Dominican Republic for the investigation.
