A statement shared by Member of Parliament for Assin South, Honorable John Ntim Fordjour in an X post
“We addressed a Minority Press Conference today calling on government to act swiftly to contain the deteriorating security situation in Bawku. We urge calm among all feuding factions and appeal for restraint in engaging in reprisal attacks that may further escalate tensions.
As a strategic boarder town, Bawku’s instability poses a wider national and regional security risk. The expansion of attacks to other regions including the North East and Ahafo, further underscores the urgent need for the conflict to be resolved.
The continued insecurity in Bawku is crippling essential services, forced schools to shutdown depriving children of their right to education.
We commend the diligent leadership of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu, Asantehene in mediation towards peacebuilding in Bawku and urge the security agencies to discharge their mandate in absolute diplomacy, firmness and fairness, taking into account the emotional, cultural, and traditional sensitivities of the Bawku enclave.
Condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies to the injured and those who have lost properties during this conflict.”
