Donald Trump says Birthright citizenship was meant for the children of slaves, not for everybody in the world

President Donald Trump has asserted that birthright citizenship was mainly designed for the offspring of slaves not intended for everyone to “come in and pile” into the US.

On the inaugural day of his presidency, Trump enacted an executive order opposing birthright citizenship; however, this move was swiftly nullified by a federal court in Seattle the very next day.

Trump has indicated he would challenge this ruling.

On Thursday, he radiated confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately decide in his favor.

“Birthright citizenship…was meant for the children of slaves. This was not meant for the whole world to come in & pile into the United States.”

“Everybody coming in, and totally unqualified people with perhaps unqualified children. This wasn’t meant for that,” he said.

Asserting that it was meant for the children of slaves,” he said it was a “very good and noble” thing to do.

“I’m in favour of that 100 per cent. But it wasn’t meant for the entire world to occupy the United States,” Trump said.
