The Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ruled that the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, was caused by medical negligence, specifically pointing to the actions of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
The court’s findings, delivered on Friday by Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, recommend the criminal prosecution of Ogedengbe for administering an injection without a doctor’s prescription, an act deemed “unlawful and professionally negligent.”

Mohbad, a rising star in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances.
The inquest revealed that Ogedengbe, who was neither a registered nurse nor a licensed medical practitioner, administered a tetanus injection that led to complications, including vomiting and convulsions, which likely caused the singer’s death.
The court also noted that the decomposed state of Mohbad’s body made it challenging to determine a definitive cause, but a severe reaction to the injection was the most probable factor.
While the court cleared music industry figures Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy of any direct involvement in Mohbad’s death, it criticized systemic failures, including the Nigeria Police’s inaction on a petition filed by Mohbad alleging assault and intimidation by these individuals.
The coroner noted that Omowunmi was present during Mohbad’s medical emergency but failed to contact emergency services or secure proper ambulance support as the singer’s condition worsened.
The coroner also faulted Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, for arranging a hasty burial the day after the singer’s death without insisting on an autopsy, which complicated efforts to determine the exact cause of death.
