Ghana to export human resources from health and education sector to Jamaica

Ghana is set to export skilled professionals in the education and health sectors to Jamaica under a bilateral partnership aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations.

The agreement was finalized during a successful meeting between Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith (MP), on the sidelines of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Summit in Brussels.

The partnership focuses on deploying Ghanaian teachers and nurses to address workforce needs in Jamaica, while also fostering collaboration in trade, tourism, and agribusiness.

Ablakwa emphasized Jamaica’s readiness to welcome Ghanaian professionals, marking a significant step in economic diplomacy to address unemployment and leverage Ghana’s skilled workforce.

“This agreement not only strengthens Pan-African ties but also opens new avenues for mutual prosperity,” he stated.

Hon. Johnson Smith expressed Jamaica’s enthusiasm for welcoming Ghanaian professionals, noting the shared cultural and historical bonds that underpin this cooperation.

The partnership is expected to roll out in phases, with further details on implementation to be announced soon.
