Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote is set to invest in Ghana by establishing a $162 million sugar refinery in the country.
The project, which is under Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, aims to reduce Ghana’s reliance on foreign imports and bolster local industrialization.

The refinery will be located in Kwame-Danso, Bono East Region, and is allegedly in line with Ghana’s “One District, One Factory” (1D1F) policy.

With land secured and regulatory approvals in place, the project is poised to introduce advanced sugar processing technology, create jobs, and stimulate economic activity in an underserved region.

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc is already Nigeria’s largest sugar producer with a refining capacity of 1.44 million metric tonnes per year.
The company reported a 74.3% revenue surge in the first quarter of 2025, reaching $133.21 million (N213.9 billion), up from $76.41 million (N122.73 billion) the previous year.
