The ceasefire, brokered with U.S. and Qatari mediation, came after intense military exchanges that began on June 13, 2025, when Israel launched Operation Rising Lion targeting Iran’s nuclear and military sites.

Iran retaliated with ballistic missile strikes under Operation True Promise 3, resulting in over 224 deaths in Iran and 24 in Israel, according to the latest figures from Iran’s health ministry and Israeli reports (BBC, June 19, 2025).

The truce was initially impaired by mutual accusations of violations within hours, with Israel claiming Iranian missile launches and Iran denying any post-ceasefire aggression.
