Video: An unruly passenger on a flight from Uyo is to be charged to court after assaulting a flight attendant and cabin crews

A violent incident aboard Ibom Air flight QI 513 from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, August 10, 2025, has led to passenger Comfort Emmanson facing multiple court charges for assaulting a flight attendant, cabin crew members, and airport security personnel.

The incident occurred before take-off from Uyo’s Akwa Ibom Airport when Ms. Emmanson was instructed in line with standard aviation safety procedures, to switch off her mobile phone.

She bluntly refused to comply until the Pilot-in-Command made an announcement, after which a fellow passenger, who was seated beside her, took the phone and switched it off.

The action prompted a verbal argument between Ms. Emmanson and Juliana Edward, a purser, but the situation was eventually calmed, and the flight departed as scheduled.

Upon arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson waited for all other passengers to get down and then proceeded to confront Juliana Edward who had earlier instructed her.

Emmanson walked up to the unsuspecting Juliana, stepped on her. She forcibly tore off her wig, removed her glasses and threw it to the floor, and hit her multiple times with her footwear.

She also slapped her several times and when the other cabin crew member tried to intervene, she slapped her too. Emmanson also attempted to forcibly remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, an act that could have damaged and grounded the aircraft.

Juliana prevented the Emmansin from leaving the aircraft until security arrived. Even when Ibom Air Security personnel arrived, Emmanson still went on and attacked them as well, lashing out violently at the security personnel.

She was then restrained and removed from the aircraft by force. However, she continued to assault Ibom Air security personnel, and even slapped the ground supervisor.

Ibom Air has imposed a permanent travel ban on Emmanson, barring her from all future flights, and submitted a detailed report to the NCAA, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy toward unruly or violent conduct.

The airline has also issued a communique about the incident commended the bravery and professionalism of its crew, BASL, FAAN AVSEC, and the Nigeria Police Force in handling the “extremely challenging circumstances.” It also urged passengers to comply with crew instructions to ensure safety and comfort
