Tanzania completes $260 million John Magufuli Bridge, the longest in East Africa

Tanzania has completed their highly anticipated John Magufuli Bridge following years of hard work and investment into the project.

The completed bridge will now boast as the longest in East Africa, spanning 3.2 kilometers across Lake Victoria.

The bridge connects Kigongo in the Mwanza Region of the country with Busisi in the Geita Region, forming part of the Tanzanian Trunk Road T4.

As to why it is named as the John Magufuli Bridge, the name was chosen in honor of former Tanzanian President John Magufuli, who initiated the project before his death in 2021.

The new development is a joy to all Tanzania’s as a dream come true and it is all set to open to traffic on June 19, 2025.

Fully funded by the Tanzania government, the project cost the country an amount of $260 million.

The inauguration will witness high profile personalities in the country including President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who will personally be inaugurating the bridge.
