Hassanal Bolkiah Muiz’zaddin Wad’daulah is the Sultan of Brunei.
He has been its leader since 1967, and prime minister of Brunei since its independence from the United Kingdom in 1984.
Brunei is now a British-protected Sultanate after it was formerly an empire that spanned the Philippines and much of modern-day Malaysia.
The British conquered it and ruled it for a century.
The Sultan celebrated his 50th birthday in 1996 with the most lavish birthday party which lasted two weeks and included the construction of a stadium.
It is reported that the Sultan paid the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson $17 million to play three shows at the event.

Brunei’s gas and oil reserves are a major source of the Sultan’s wealth.
The largest private automobile collection in the world is among Sultan’s most renowned assets according to Fox News. His collection of over 7000 luxury cars is valued at $5 billion.
An estimated $30 billion is Sultan Bolkiahs fortune which is mostly derived from Brunei’s enormous oil and gas reserves.

Once the richest person in the world, his extravagant lifestyle includes a home with more than 1700 rooms and a collection of about 7000 luxury cars.
With a population of 455858 and a poverty rate of 5% Brunei is ranked 11th out of 78 countries despite being one of the richest countries in the world thanks to its enormous oil and gas reserves.
