Streets empty in US over fears of arrest amid Trump’s immigration raid

Certain streets in Chicago are undergoing a noticeable transformation under Donald Trump’s immigration policies; communities are increasingly retreating into the shadows as a result of intensified raids conducted by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) aimed at apprehending illegal immigrants in the United States.

In Little Village a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood located on the city’s south side—streets that once thrived with life now appear desolate.

Residents have communicated to Sky News that fewer individuals are willing to venture outdoors, primarily because of the fear of being ensnared in the ongoing crackdown.

Officials assert that the initial focus is to target migrant criminals; however, there are growing concerns regarding ‘collateral arrests.’

These are instances in which undocumented immigrants, not originally targeted, could still face detention.

This has led even individuals with legal status to exercise increased caution.

One resident, Steve, expressed his deep apprehensions for his mother, who immigrated from Mexico years ago without the necessary documentation.

“She crossed the border over here to get a better life for us when we were born, to get education and all. She’s scared to go out there, that she might get picked up,” he told Sky News.
