In a case that has left doctors perplexed a mysterious unexplained illness known as the dancing disease is reportedly spreading throughout Uganda and causing patients to shake uncontrollably.
The illness known locally as Dinga Dinga which means shaking like dancing has reportedly already afflicted about 300 people primarily women and girls according to health officials.
The mysterious disease which has been identified in Uganda Bundibugyo district causes fever and excessive body shaking making it difficult for people who have Dinga Dinga to walk.

No cases had been reported in neighbouring areas outside of the Bundibugyo region according to district health officer Doctor Kiyita Christopher who also told local media that samples had been sent to the health ministry for examination.
“There is no scientific evidence that herbal medicine can treat this disease,” he said.
“We are using specific treatments, and patients usually recover within a week.
“I urge locals to seek treatment from health facilities within the district,” he added.

The mysterious illness was first reported in early 2023 and is still being investigated by health laboratories Christopher told the Ugandan newspaper Monitor.
Patience Katusiime one patient recalled her experience with the illness stating that even though she felt paralyzed her body continued to shake uncontrollably.
“I felt weak and got paralysed, with my body shaking uncontrollably whenever I tried to walk,” she said.
“It was very disturbing. I was taken to Bundibugyo Hospital for treatment, and thank God, I am now fine.”
