Spain declares three days of mourning in honour of Pope Francis

Spain has declared that they will have three days dedicated to mourning by in honour of Pope Francis.

Justice Minister Felix Bolanos says the deeply Catholic country ‘always felt close to his work and values’.

Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday April 21, 2025 after facing severe health issues about a month ago.

The Argentinian pontiff is credited to bringing the plight of the world’s most marginalised back to the centre of the Roman Catholic Church’s attention.

Pop Francis was named the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State on March 13, 2013.

Known as the first Pope from the society of Jesus, Pope had a lengthy reign and labeled by many as the best Pope until his unfortunate passing.

Pop passed away in his residence in Domus Sanctae Marthae, his death was announced by Cardinal Kevin Farrell on the Vatican’s TV chann.
