Elon Musk is gearing up towards extending his Starlink to South Africa following a new draft policy by the South African government.
The South African government has announced a draft policy directive to facilitate Starlink’s operations in the country.

The announcement means the government is bypassing the 30% Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) ownership requirement for telecom companies.
The directive, which was signed by Communications Minister Solly Malatsi proposes an “equity equivalent” program, allowing firms like Starlink to invest in disadvantaged communities or skills development instead of ceding equity.
This move follows tensions with Elon Musk, who claimed Starlink was barred due to his race.

His claim was later refuted by regulators who noted that Starlink had never applied for a license in the country.
This development aims to attract investment and expand internet access, particularly in rural areas.
