Minister of Communication, Honorable Sam George has announced there is going to be a new sim registration exercise.
In an interview on TV3, the minister revealed that this exercise is not a reregistration because the previous government never registered any data.

“The previous administration sim pre-registration was a poorly thought through initiative, lacking technology, lacking innovation.”
“It was basically again an attempt to force through private interest over public interest,” he explained.
According to him, the initial data collected by the previous government was just an abuse of public office.
“There was absolutely no verification of the data that was taken,” Sam told the interviewer.
The minister also revealed that the previous government had no legal way to do registration because they had no L.I. to do the reregistration. The only LI available now was introduced in 2010 by Haruna Iddrisu, the then-minister of communication.
“We are coming to do a proper registration, it is going to be backed by law. Before I do it I will go to parliament to get an L.I. that will enable me to do what I’m going to do.”
“The registration we are going to do is tech-driven and human-centered. I don’t expect to see you queue, I don’t expect to see any Ghanaian queue,” he continued.
The new verification will be done online without people being stuck in queues.
