President Trump says he will not be seeking a third term

President Donald Trump has definitively ruled out seeking a third term in 2028, citing constitutional limits and expressing confidence in his current four-year term to achieve significant goals.

After joking and teasing about it (including selling merchandise) for months, Trump finally came clear about running for a third term in office.

In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Trump stated, “This is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, to carry it forward.”

Trump named Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also serving as interim national security adviser, as potential successors.

He emphasized that his MAGA movement could endure beyond his presidency, expressing optimism about its future.

“I think we’re going to have four years, and I think four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular,” he added.

The announcement puts an end to speculation about Trump challenging the 22nd Amendment, which prevents presidents from serving more than two terms.

He is now focusing on his current term’s agenda and the transition to new Republican leadership in 2028.
