Nigerian Tech company sues TikTok over alleged complacency in sexual exploitation on their platform

Citizens’ Gavel, a civic-tech non-profit organization in Nigeria, is suing TikTok for allowing sexual content and exploration on their platform.

According to Sylvester Agih, the senior legal analyst for the tech company, TikTok which was created for creatives to showcase their talents for likes and comments has now become a hub for sexual exploration.

“We have seen a shift where adult males in particular will come and invite young girls to come online and partake in certain inappropriate activities,” Sylvester told News Central.

He revealed that such acts has been going on for a long time now although they thought the platform would put measures in place to stop it.

According to Agih his team contacted TikTok some time ago and raised their concern. TikTok in reply to their quest took down some of the accounts and videos however, it is still not enough.

“For us, that is like treating the symptoms and leaving out the main cause. That is basically what prompted us to go to court,” he explained.
