Liverpool Football Club have announced they will pay the full remaining value of Diogo Jota’s contract to his family following the Portuguese forward’s tragic death in a car accident.
Jota, who passed away alongside his brother Andre Silva in a crash in Zamora, Spain, had two years left on his five-year contract, signed in August 2022.

Jota’s deal, estimated at £14.6 million, included a weekly wage of approximately £140,000, totaling around £7.3 million annually, with performance bonuses and image rights.
The heartfelt gesture, reported by Portuguese outlet Record. The move is to ensures financial support for Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso, and their three children.
The club has also pledged ongoing emotional and legal support. Jota’s iconic No. 20 shirt has also been retired by the club with plans for a permanent memorial at Anfield.
Jota, who joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 for £41 million, made 182 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.
