Lagos govt arrests beggars and their children constituting public nuisance

On Tuesday, November 17, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out another raid throughout the city against those who were causing public nuisance.

According to state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab who made this announcement on X, Awolowo Way up to the Falomo roundabout Ikoyi and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue along Lekki road are among the main routes raided.

The purpose of this act was to get rid of the poor and criminals who were bothering the public in these areas.

He said that during the operation 27 people were arrested including 15 minors who were engaged in the illegal practice of street begging while there were traffic jams.

According to the applicable enabling laws Wahab further stated that all suspects will be moved to the proper government facilities.
