Since President Trump took office on January 21, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks says illegal border crossings have dropped by 90%.
This decline is due to stricter enforcement and large deportation operations by the current administration.
For instance, on February 5, only 396 illegal migrants were apprehended in key areas of the southwest border, a significant change from the thousands crossing daily in regions like Del Rio during the prior administration.

Additionally, arrests of criminal migrants have increased by 52%, reflecting a tougher stance on border security.
While some express concerns about the treatment of legal migrants, Chief Banks clarified that enforcement efforts are focused on those entering the country illegally, not lawful residents.
