Burkina Faso’s military-led President, Ibrahim Traore, has castigated the President of France, Emmanuel Macron over his remarks about Africa’s ingratitude.
The French president chastised certain nations for their ingratitude toward France.
In an address to the diplomatic corps last week, Macron said African leaders had forgotten to say thank you to France for helping to combat insurgencies in the Sahel region.
“I think they forgot to thank us. It doesn’t matter, it will come with time. Ingratitude – I know this well – is a disease that cannot be transmitted to humans” he stated.

The French president made the statement regarding reported French military actions against jihadists in the Sahel.
Replying to recent remarks by the French leader, Ibrahim Traore said at an event in the capital Ouagadougou on Monday that Macron has humiliated all Africans.
“(Macron) has humiliated all Africans. This is how this gentleman sees Africa and Africans. We are not human beings in his eyes,”.
“If anyone is ungrateful, it is him. France exists today thanks to our ancestors. They should pray for us.”
“He insulted all Africans. (…) This is how this gentleman sees Africa, sees Africans. We are not human in his eyes,” reacted Captain Traore, during a New Year’s ceremony.
Since a coup in September 2022, when the 36-year-old captain took power by force, relations between France and Burkina Faso have been steadily worsening.
