After the Eaton Fire raged through Altadena Los Angeles an 83-year-old grandfather was discovered by his family amidst the ash and debris.
At least ten people were killed in the Eaton Fire on Thursday, January 9.
Rodney Nickerson was one of the victims who was found dead in his bed following the destruction of his Altadena home to ash and rubble.

“I’ll be here tomorrow” was the last thing her father said to her over the phone according to Kimiko Nickerson, his daughter who was touring the remnants of her childhood home on Thursday.
“My son tried to get him to leave, my neighbors and myself, and he said he’ll be fine…”
“We found his bones, his whole body was intact,” Kimiko said.
According to Kimiko, her father Rodney insisted on remaining in the family home he had bought for $5 in 1968.
The Nickerson family has a strong connection to the city of Los Angeles.
According to Kimiko, her great-grandfather William Nickerson founded and owned Watts Nickerson Gardens the city’s biggest public housing complex.
Rodney spent forty-five years as a project engineer at Lockheed Martin.
My mother also worked at Lockheed. Kimiko said.
She said she had last spoken to him at 9:30 p. m. and he was most likely going to bed shortly after.
He was still accustomed to getting up at four in the morning
