Elon Musk has announced a major development in his plans to rollout Tesla cars without a driver in the driver’s seat.
He revealed that Tesla plans to begin the first self-delivery of a self-driving Model Y from the factory to a customer in June.
Musk revealed the Tesla Model Y vehicles have been operating during tests on public streets in Austin, Texas, with no one in the driver’s seat.
The test was successful with no incidents reported so far which means they are ready to be used.
These vehicles are equipped with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) unsupervised technology and are part of preparations for Tesla’s robotaxi service.
While these vehicles can operate on their own without a driver, they may involve remote human oversight and retain standard seating configurations, including a driver’s seat, for regulatory and safety reasons.

A month ahead of schedule. Next month, first self-delivery from factory to customer.
