President Donald Trump has issued an executive order in response to South Africa’s recently passed Expropriation Act 13 of 2024 which permits the government to take agricultural land from Afrikaners without paying them.
On February 7th 2025, the President signed the order which raises concerns about alleged discriminatory practices and human rights abuses.
The U.S. sees this as necessary because they accuse South Africa of undermining equal opportunities and opposing U.S. allies such as Israel.

Additionally, the rule points out concerns about South Africa’s collaboration with Iran on military and nuclear matters.
This U.S. move is likely to strain relations between the two nations.

South Africa has yet to issue an official response, but experts suggest it could escalate into significant political and economic tensions.
