President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order aimed at reducing federal support for gender transitions for individuals under 19.
This latest move seeks to roll back protections for transgender people nationwide.

“It is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one s*x to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” Trump said in a statement.
The order mandates that federally-run insurance programs including TRICARE for military families and Medicaid exclude coverage for such care.
It also calls on the Department of Justice to vigorously pursue litigation and legislation opposing this practice.

Medicaid programs in certain states cover gender-affirming care; however, the new order indicates that this practice could be curtailed.
It specifically targets hospitals and universities that receive federal funding and provide the care.
