Memphis Depay, a star for Corinthians FC is in hot water following a startling court decision.
Known to be close friends with Nigerian musician Davido, the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid winger was found driving under the influence of alcohol in Monaco.
Due to this, he was given a two-year driving ban and a four-month suspended prison sentence.
According to RMC Sport, in the wee hours of August 6 2023, Depay was stopped by Monaco police for driving a Rolls-Royce carelessly.

According to authorities, the 30-year-old’s blood alcohol content was significantly higher than the legal limit at 1 point 01 mg per litre of exhaled air or more than 2 grams of alcohol per litre of blood.
While Depay was not present, the Monaco court rendered its decision imposing a two-year driving ban within the principality a €2000 fine and a suspended four-month jail sentence.

Depay has two weeks to challenge the decision despite having acknowledged his guilt and expressed regret at the time of his arrest.
After the decision, Depay addressed the controversy on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, January 5.

“I would like to come on here and apologise,” he wrote.
“Last summer during my holidays in Monaco I made a mistake and decided to drive home after having some drinks in a restaurant.
“I should’ve got in a taxi instead, but I didn’t, so I would like to apologise and want to take full responsibility for my actions.

“2024 was a year of lessons and I will definitely learn from this one. 2025 we will do better.”
