British Army Officer arrested in Nigeria for alleged arms smuggling

A British Army officer has been arrested by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly smuggling weapons into the country.

The arms, including 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and over 3,000 rounds of ammunition, were recovered during a covert operation in Delta State.

The suspect, identified in media as Micah Polo, was apprehended by the DSS during a covert operation in Delta State, where over 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition were seized

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the smuggling and potential connections to local or international criminal networks.

The British High Commission has clarified that the individual apprehended in Nigeria in connection with alleged arms smuggling is not an active member of the British Army. Instead, they are former junior ranks in the UK Armed Forces Reserves who have already completed their service.
