A group of Egyptologists have discovered the first tomb of a pharaoh after searching for over a century. The tomb was discovered by a British-Egypt team.
The recently discovered tomb is the third tomb of a pharaoh to ever be discovered. Until recently, the only tomb that had been discovered was that of King Thutmose II’s tomb.

King Thutmose II’s tomb is a remarkable archaeological discovery, unearthed in October 2022 in the Wadi Gabbanat el-Qurud area west of Luxor.
The tomb was initially thought to be that of a pharaoh’s wife because it was found at an area associated with the tombs of royal women but they discovered it was a pharaoh after they entered the burial chamber.

The discovery of Thutmose II’s tomb marks a significant milestone in Egyptology, being the first royal tomb uncovered since Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.
Egypt minister of tourism and antiques said the discovery is an “extraordinary moment for Egyptology and the broader understanding of our shared human story.”

Dr. Piers Litherland, the field director for the team also said “the emotion of getting into these things is just one of extraordinary bewilderment because when you come across something you’re not expecting to find, it’s emotionally extremely turbulent really.”
