Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Moroccan international defender Achraf Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of rape, following a formal indictment request by French prosecutors in Nanterre.
The move, reported by Le Parisien and confirmed by Agence France-Presse, marks a critical escalation in a case that began in February 2023, casting a shadow over the 26-year-old football star’s illustrious career.

The allegations stem from an incident on February 25, 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of raping her at his Boulogne-Billancourt home.
According to her statement to police, she met Hakimi via Instagram in January 2023 and was invited to his residence while his wife, actress Hiba Abouk, and their two children were on holiday.
She alleged that Hakimi initiated non-consensual physical contact, including kissing and inappropriate touching, despite her protests, before she managed to escape. The woman reported the incident to Nogent-sur-Marne police the following day but initially declined to file a formal complaint, prompting a preliminary investigation.
On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was formally charged with rape, briefly detained, and placed under judicial supervision, which barred him from contacting the accuser but allowed him to travel.
After over two years of investigation by the Sûreté territoriale, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office submitted an indictment request on August 1, 2025, urging the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court to proceed with a trial.
The accuser’s account, supported by text messages sent to friends and a witness’s testimony about her distressed state, has strengthened the prosecution’s case. An investigating judge will now decide whether to approve the trial or dismiss the charges, with a ruling expected soon.
Hakimi has denied the allegations, maintaining the encounter was consensual. His attorney, Fanny Colin, called the accusations “incomprehensible” and claimed psychological evaluations of the accuser reveal inconsistencies.
Hakimi has suggested the allegations are a blackmail attempt, filing a counter-complaint for extortion, though no progress on this claim has been reported. “The truth is, success makes you a target,” he said in a January 2025 interview. Colin added, “Achraf is calm and trusts the judicial process to clear his name.”
PSG has stood by Hakimi, emphasizing confidence in France’s legal system. The club has allowed him to continue playing and made no public stance. Recently spotted vacationing with former teammate Kylian Mbappé in Puerto Rico, Hakimi has maintained a public focus on his career despite the legal pressure.
If the trial proceeds, Hakimi faces a potential 15-year sentence under French law, a prospect that could disrupt his career and Morocco’s national team plans, including the upcoming 2025/2026 football season.
