About $300,000 stolen after bags of cash fell off Brinks security van

An unexpected incident occurred in Oak Park, Illinois, near Chicago, when a Brinks Home Security truck accidentally released three bags of cash. Onlookers collected an estimated $300,000.

This happened on Tuesday, April 22, at approximately 5:07 p.m., as the truck was traveling southbound on the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard.

According to a Brinks representative, the truck’s back door opened by unknown means, causing the bags of U.S. currency to spill onto the street.

When the driver returned to the scene, they witnessed between 50 and 100 people frantically grabbing cash before fleeing on foot or in vehicles.

The Oak Park Police Department is investigating the incident as a theft of lost or mislaid property, with no arrests reported as of Friday, April 25.

Police are urging anyone who took money to return it, warning that keeping the cash could lead to theft charges.

Currently no arrests have been made so far according to the police. Investigations are also still ongoing.
