U.S. increases arrest target of illegal immigrants to 1,800 per day

The Trump administration has established a quota that mandates a minimum of 1,800 daily arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This requirement compels each of the agency’s 25 offices to achieve at least 75 arrests per day, a significant increase in their operational demands.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller confirmed the quota during a CNN appearance, emphasizing, “The numbers you cited are a floor, not a ceiling. The goal is to arrest at least that many, but hopefully many more.”

The Washington Post reports that officials now expect ICE to make between 1,200 and 1,500 arrests daily across the country.

Tom Homan, Trump’s Border Czar, participated in a raid in Chicago over the weekend and emphasized that ICE is concentrating on detaining illegal migrants who possess criminal records and are considered threats to public safety.

However, this approach has sparked considerable debate about the implications for community safety and the effectiveness of such policies.

Although some argue that these measures are necessary, critics contend that they foster fear and distrust within immigrant communities.

“I think the president’s happy, but we’re going to make him a lot happier,” Homan told Fox News. “We’re not gonna let up. We’re gonna put our foot on the gas and we’re gonna go.”
