Mark Zuckerberg removes transgender and non-binary themes from Meta’s Messenger

As part of a larger change in company policies under Mark Zuckerberg Meta has formally eliminated transgender and nonbinary themes from its Messenger app.

The app’s “themes” feature allows users to change the designs and colours of their chats, with the “trans” and “nonbinary” themes featuring the colours of each of the transgender and nonbinary flags.

Within the company, employees are protesting this decision.

These LGBTQ+ identity-celebrating themes were removed which is consistent with Meta’s recent decisions to permit more hate speech and undermine diversity initiatives.

Critics claim that this is part of a concerning trend that favours conservative viewpoints.
