Drake is no longer filing the case against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, where he accused them of boosting the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” in an unfair way.
It seems almost that he decided to stay away from making new steps in the process, which is a huge step away from the initial process that took place just several weeks ago.

The lawsuit originally filed in November stated that UMG and Spotify were involved in the shady scheme of utilizing bots, engaging in payola and illegal practices of the art to manipulate Lamar’s song.
This was one of the songs, among others the lyrics of which were harshly ridiculing Drake while they were they were publicly feuding.
However, the company of Drake, Frozen Moments LLC, said in the court that they would be retracting the action “without costs to any party” in a filing Tuesday (Jan. 14) in Manhattan.
Against this calling, there is also one filed in Texas contesting UMG and iHeartRadio on the grounds that the record tampered with Lamar’s song, which was defamatory, and the case is still pending.
The attorney who handles Drake’s affairs missed the opportunity to make a statement about the reason the case was withdrawn, he was also out of reach on the same day.
A spokesman for UMG refused to shed light on the matter as well.
Spotify never sent a reply to the request for a comment which was sent to their representative.
Drake’s actions implied a rather unexpected divergence between him and UMG, the place where the star started his career.
He first did it by signing a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint, which was then distributed by Republic Records later by signing directly to Republic.
The lawyers of Drake, on their part, in Tuesday’s turn advised that they had had meetings with representatives from both UMG and Spotify at the time that they were to withdraw the case.

Spotify was okay with the dismissal, according to the document, but they hung to their chips to see if they would still attack the withdrawal in some other way.
