Mother sells her 2-year-old son, Reports to Police claiming he was kidnapped by unknown men

The woman known as Keneiwe Portia Shabala 32, was caught allegedly selling her 2-year-old son, Kutlwano to some unknown people on November 10, 2024.

Shabala who was charged to court appeared for her hearing on Monday, November 25, 2024 after being found guilty of human trafficking, conspiracy to commit robbery and providing a false statement to Police.

In a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority, they revealed that on November 13, Portia Shabala made a false report to the Police claiming that some unidentified men have kidnapped her son.

They added that they found out the woman’s claims was completely untrue during their investigation and it was later that confessed to lying to the police.

Following her arrest on November 19, Portia Shabala has since been behind bars pending trial.

Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing by the Police to hunt down the unknown men who she sold her child to.

Court adjourned the case to November 29, 2024 and the State prosecution has objected her appeal for bail.
