American singer and rapper, Drake is reported to have filed a lawsuit on Monday against Universal Music Group and Spotify for conniving to boost the streaming of a song by his colleague, Kendrick Lamar.
Drake posits that UMG falsely inflated the streaming of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like US” a song that Kendrick lyrically threw shots at him amid their ongoing rivalry.

The petition in a New York court by Drake’s firm, Frozen Moments LLC called for information that might be proof in what could potentially work against Universal Music Group to be preserved considering that UMG is the sole distributor for the record labels of the two musicians.
Per documents TMZ Hip Hop is privy to, Drake claimed an “inside source” informed him UMG made “covert payments” to several platforms, that included radio stations, to play and promote the hell outta “Not Like Us.”

That is referred to as payola in legal terms and it’s forbidden by the FCC.
In the docs, he also espoused a whistleblower has accused Universal Music Group management of spending 1000s of dollars in May 2024 on “bots” to propel the song to 30 million streams on Spotify — and it also engaged influencers financially on various social media platforms to hype the song.
