President Trump announces ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran

United States President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran hours ago.

The agreement is intended to end a 12-day conflict that began with Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and military targets on June 13.

The new development, brokered with Qatari mediation, was structured in two 12-hour phases: Iran was to halt strikes at midnight ET on June 24, followed by Israel 12 hours later, with the war officially ending at midnight ET on June 25.

Both sides initially confirmed the ceasefire, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating Israel achieved its objectives, including crippling Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that Iran would stop attacks if Israel did the same.

However, the ceasefire faced immediate challenges. Hours after its announcement, Israel reported Iranian missile launches targeting its territory.

The reports includes a barrage that struck Beersheba, killing at least five and injuring 20.

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Iran of violating the truce and ordered “intense strikes” on Tehran.

Iran denied firing missiles post-ceasefire, with its military and state media claiming no launches occurred after the deadline.

The Israeli military intercepted some missiles, but the attack raised doubts about the ceasefire’s stability.
