Court remands Chris Brown until June over Nightclub attack


American R&B star Chris Brown has been remanded in custody by a Manchester court following allegations he a+saulted a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub.

The 36-year-old singer, known for his past relationship with Rihanna, was arrested early Thursday at the Lowry Hotel in Salford after arriving in the UK for a tour.

The alleged incident took place on 19 February 2023 at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, London.

Prosecutor Hannah Nicholls told the court that Brown allegedly launched an “unprovoked attack” on music producer Abe Diaw, striking him several times with a bottle before continuing the a+s@ult in another part of the venue, where the victim was reportedly punched and kicked by Brown and another individual.

Dressed in a black T-shirt and Nike jogging bottoms, Brown confirmed his full name, date of birth, and gave the Lowry Hotel as his address.

District Judge Joanne Hirst deemed the case too serious for her court and referred it to Southwark Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for 13 June.

She also denied a bail request from Brown’s legal team and the singer acknowledged his remand and was escorted out of the courtroom after a brief hearing.
