“Burkina Faso’s economy showed positive growth in 2024” – IMF reports

According to the IMF, Burkina Faso’s economy showed positive growth in 2024, with growth estimated at 5 percent, despite a challenging security situation.

This growth, according to the IMF, was driven by strong performances in the agriculture and services sectors.

The IMF estimates that Burkina Faso’s GDP grew by 5% in 2024, accelerating from the 3.6% growth in 2023. This growth is projected to continue into 2025.

The growth is attributed to strong performance in the agriculture and services sectors, particularly in public administration, retail trade, and transportation.

“Burkina Faso’s economic growth in 2024 reflects the strength of its agriculture and services sectors, but addressing security challenges is essential for sustainable recovery,” the IMF wrote in a statement.

The IMF’s forecast for Burkina Faso’s economy is generally positive, with growth expected to remain strong in 2025, but it emphasizes the importance of addressing security challenges for a sustainable recovery.
