“We will start robbing if the government insists on evacuating us” – Traders at Kaneshie pedestrian footbridge warn government

Traders at the Kaneshie pedestrian footbridge in Accra are protesting with govermehtband pleading for the evacuation.

The trader were given up to the end of April to leave the premises by the local government. The traders have failed to comply stating they have nowhere to move to.

They are however asking the government to give them time, possibly three months before they are evacuated from the premises.

In an interview, one trader told the reporter that they would only move if given a place after the project is completed, if not, they will return to sell there.

“People sell on pedestrian footbridges everywhere in the world. We will start robbing if the government insists on evacuating us,” she told the reporter.

“We won’t come in the night, we will rob during the daytime for the government to see we are serious,” she continued.
