The Minister of the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed, expressed concerns about the growing number of foreigners in the country, pointing out that the small fees they pay to gain residency is insufficient.
While addressing the influx of foreigners, the minister proposed a $250,000 investment requirement for residency permits, aiming to curb illegal activities linked to low residency fees.
Muntaka also referred to the current residency fees as “peanuts,” suggesting that this is why more foreigners are entering the country and engaging in illegal activities.
He emphasized the need to regulate the residency policy, proposing that foreign nationals should be required to invest at least $250,000 in the country before being granted a permit.

The minister’s concern aligns with global trends, as seen in a U.S. visa restriction policy announced in March 2025, targeting foreign officials facilitating illegal migration, highlighting a broader push to regulate immigration.
