Donald Trump imposes taxes on Isalands inhabited by penguins and seals

Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on barren, uninhabited volcanic islands near Antarctica and other smaller territories.

The US president recently announced a 10% tariff on goods from these remote territories, including Heard Island and McDonald Islands, which belong to Australia.

These islands are home to penguins and have no human population, yet they’ve been affected by Trump’s trade war. These areas have no buildings, infrastructures, and inhabitants.

The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, expressed surprise that even these remote regions were not exempt from tariffs, stating that “nowhere on earth is safe.”

Other smaller countries and territories were hit with the 10% tariffs. A territory like Tokelau which depends on New Zealand and has a population of about 1,600 was affected.

In Australia territories such as Norfolk Island, with a population of 2,188, and Cocos Island with around 600 people were included although they have little to no trade with the US. Norfolk Island faces up to 29% tariff.
