President of Mexico threatens to sue Google over the change of name of Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America

President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum has threatened to sue search engine giant Google if they do not change the name of Gulf of America back to Gulf of Mexico.

According the president, the order by Trump to rename the water was to only apply at the section of the gulf under the US control and not the whole gulf of which some is under jurisdiction the Mexico and Cuba.

Speaking at a press conference, Claudia told the press that, “President Trump’s decree only the change the name of within its own continental shelf, which extends only 22 nautical miles from the US coast not the entire gulf.”

Last week, Google changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America for US based users of Google maps. People in Mexico continue to see the area labeled as Gulf of Guinea.

Google cited their reason for the change as “a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in the official government sources.”
